Job Description

Grant Funded position.
Continuation contingent upon availability of funding.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

-Assist participants in completing admission and financial aid applications to post-secondary institutions.
-Administer and interpret computer-based career assessment inventories.
-Maintain a calendar of deadline dates for applications for admission to area post-secondary institutions.
-Conduct GED/HiSET orientations, educational, career and financial aid workshops within the target area.
-Staff community outreach centers on a regularly scheduled basis to provide educational information, FAFSA submissions, Admission application, and counseling.
-Maintain personal or written communication with participants for an ongoing period following initial enrollment as an EOC participant.
-Maintain and submit accurate records of all services provided to participants.
-Serve as coordinator of the EOC Education EXPO fair.
-Provide periodic professional information and advisement to the Project Director and professional staff regarding participants’ progress.
-Participate in appropriate state and regional professional associations and staff development workshops.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and SungardHE Banner.
-Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.

-Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
-Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
-Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
-Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
-Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
-Ability to administer and interpret career assessment instruments.
-Ability to interpret various kinds of educational programs and courses of study available at post-secondary institutions within the target area.
-Ability to work evenings.
-Ability to effectively counsel students.
-Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
-Ability to visit outreach centers located throughout the program target area.
-Ability to participate in state and regional professional associations.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree with three years experience in college student development, counseling, adult education or related area.
- Master’s degree and experience in counseling/advising enrolled or prospective college students preferred.
- A background check will be required for the successful applicant.
