The primary purpose of this position is the overall safe and proper operation of the Gravure printing press. This position ensures that all customer specifications are met; when needed, the Operator will inform the Supervisor when those specifications fall below the standard. In addition, this role will provide leadership and guidance to the Press Assistants in order to meet both departmental and company goals.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform the safe and proper set-up, start-up, and shut down of the Gravure press
  • Visually inspect the web and identify and correct print defects
  • Provide guidance to the Press Assistants with the identification of print defects and corrective/preventative measures to eliminate/prevent print defects
  • Collect samples from each printed roll and perform all necessary quality checks to ensure customer specifications are met
  • Must follow applicable Food Safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned to advance the mission of the Company
  • Ensure all production reports and production data entries are complete and correct
  • Ensure compliance with all EHS regulations, requirements, and training
  • Assist Press Assistants with all job changes
  • Assist Utility/Roll Tenders with roll shaft handling
  • Respond to plant emergencies (only if a member of the 1st Alert Team)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of High School Diploma. Significant (10+ years) printing experience related directly to position duties may be considered as substitute for formal education
  • Minimum of five years of experience in printing (preferred- Gravure)
  • Ability to manage time and work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to work with internal and external individuals, demonstrating a high level of professionalism
  • Highly organized, detail oriented
  • Enthusiasm for learning and personal growth
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use and a working knowledge of quality equipment (X-Rite color gauge and associated software, Infinity software, COF tester, rub tester, barcode scanner, Humidity cabinets)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to lift 45-50 pounds
  • Ability to stand/walk for 8-12 hours
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level occasionally while performing necessary duties
  • Able to work around chemical waste/processes (with proper training)
  • Ability to climb mezzanine when needed
