Minimum Requirements

The position requires skills in interpersonal communication, customer service skills, public relations, excel spreadsheet, Microsoft Word, and data management. Training for other systems of data-tracking will be provided.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.

Computer literacy and advanced skills in Microsoft Office software, Excel data bases, website maintenance, and Facebook management.

Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Previous work experience with a diverse student population.

Interest in student’s progression in a university setting.

A background check will be required of the successful applicant.

An official transcript and names, addresses and phone numbers of three (3) references will be required of the successful applicant.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of the School of Nursing (SON), the Nursing Advisor Coordinator develops effective advising methods to assist nursing students to prepare to be successful in admission for the RN-BSN nursing program. For those students who are unable to be admitted because of too many pre-reqs/core the Coordinator is responsible for helping these students to finish enough to reapply for the RN to BSN program. In addition the Nursing Advisor Coordinator will assist with preparing student’s files for graduation, accreditation, and advising in preparation for entry to the MSN nursing program. The Nursing Advisor Coordinator will consult with the RN to BSN Coordinator and SON Director in order to develop effective strategies to continually improve the advising effectiveness that results in students’ admission to the nursing program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Positively represent the School of Nursing when meeting with RN to BSN nursing students on phone, through email, and in person.

Interpret and disseminate information related to the SON policies and criteria for admission to the RN to BSN Programs.

Enroll newly registered students in the RN to BSN orientation course.

Provide advising for prospective students to the RN to BSN program.

Exhibit excellence in meeting the public with effective communication and listening skills.

Facilitate ongoing reporting of the enrollment status of RN to BSN nursing students.

Monitor and evaluate student progress through the curriculum.

Develop strategies to assist students in completion of the core classes.

Develop skills in intrusive advisement and motivational interviewing to assist students in choosing prescribed courses for the RN to BSN major.

Serve as the liaison from the RN to BSN program to the office of the Registrar at APSU.

Serve as the liaison from the RN to BSN program on the SON admissions committee.

Serve as the liaison from the RN to BSN program on APSU Graduation department.

Facilitate the transfer of student names to the SON Faculty Admission Committee each 8-week semester.

Advise prospective students and evaluate transcripts regarding transfer of courses in order to meet nursing pre-requisites for admission and graduation in the RN to BSN program.

Reach out to students who have stopped participating and engage them back in degree completion.

Attend to detail while keeping accurate analytic and performance records in support of the Coordinator.

Assist with pinning and graduation for RN to BSN and BSN students.

Assist with marketing of the RN to BSN and BSN programs.

Monitor the academic progress of all RN to BSN student who are admitted or taking core waiting to be admitted.

Process students for graduation one semester before they graduate.

Assist the program coordinator with escrow for graduating students

Refer students to other office and campus resources as needed.

Provide Satisfactory Academic Progress Review and Prior Credit Evaluation reports as needed.

Organize data and attend meetings regarding accreditation.

Participate in organization and presentation of recruitment efforts including AP Days.

Perform other job-related duties for the RN to BSN and BSN programs as assigned.
