POSITION: Systems Support Technician I

LOCATION: Montgomery County Information Technology

SALARY: $ 41,143.24 annually (EXEMPT) 


**Montgomery County Government adopted the State of Tennessee’s Hybrid Retirement Plan to be effective January 1, 2017. Any new full-time employee hired on or after January 1, 2017 will be required to enroll. As a member of the Hybrid Plan, you are required to contribute at least 5% of your salary to the defined benefit portion of the Hybrid Plan. Contributions are made on a tax-deferred basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.  

  • Provide hardware, software and network installation, troubleshooting and support services, proactively ensuring that the network operations environment is fully functional and optimized to meet the needs of county agencies and departments.
  • Answers calls and provides information, advice and guidance to handle problems. Takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Installs, troubleshoots and performs basic repairs on desktop hardware (PC), laptops, peripherals and printers. Responsible for the research, design, development, and testing of computer hardware and peripherals. (Hardware refers to computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems, and related equipment such as keyboards, modems, and printers.)
  • Required to interact with work order ticketing system to respond to work orders and customers. Required to author knowledge base articles when common problem solutions are found.
  • Scan barcodes to enter computer system data into Asset Management software of new deployed workstations, laptops, etc. and perform the same function on equipment to be disposed or sold through approved government auctions
  • Supervise contract work as required for computer hardware and peripheral installation and equipment validation.
  • Maintains computer images and performs software package installs as required.
  • Performs basic tasks at the network server level, including printer queue setup and maintenance and share setup and maintenance.
  • Required to be available on call remotely, before and after normal business hours and on weekends as part of rotation assignment. Must be able to go onsite if call is an emergency. The on-call assignment is for one continuous week approximately 7 to 8 times a year.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  
This position requires an Associate’s degree in computer related studies with one year of manning hotlines or help desks in a multi-user, PC-based environment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

  • Microsoft certification and A+ certification preferred.
  • Must maintain valid Tennessee Driver’s License or have a reliable source of transportation.
