Title: Financial Aid Technical Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY
To provide financial services/planning to assist students in meeting college goals and financial costs and to advise students regarding academic planning.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/ JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interview and advise students regarding educational financial planning. Assess student tuition charges, billing, eligible financial aid and V.A funding and relay information to students as needed.  Process and apply waivers/discounts to student accounts, as applicable. Manage fund allotments for individual recipients.  Act as Bursar, collect payments and prepare and deliver bank deposits and Daily Cash Reports (DCR).  Work closely with other institutional departments and various state entities to serve students to the fullest. Advise prospective and current students regarding educational academic planning, guiding them through the degree selection, financial aid application and admissions processes.  Assist veterans and their dependents in applying for educational benefits, both online and in person.  Consult with outside agencies as needed to further assist veterans and their dependents. Conduct presentations on financial aid, veterans and dependent benefits and other topics both internally and externally to groups of 20 to 200 participants.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED

One year of relevant experience

Prior customer service experience

Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field

Two to four years of relevant experience

Experience with Ellucian applications, particularly Banner

Knowledge of college financial aid processes or previous experience in a higher education setting

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications. Aptitude for analyzing student questions and requests. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Critical thinking skills to identify the underlying principles, motivations, reasons or facts by breaking down information or data into separate parts.

Rate of Pay: $28,431 to $34,125, depending on experience
